We advance sustainability in our products and for people and the planet, building on the work of our previous strategy periods. Our Planet focus area consists of our efforts to mitigate climate change, safeguard biodiversity and use resources wisely in our own operations and across our value chains. Our CARE principles guide this work from product design to production and all the way to product use.
Together with other actors, we want to promote the development of new technologies, materials and business models and, in doing so, help move the entire industry forward.
Climate action and emissions reductions
Climate impacts are a significant theme in our sustainability work, and for years we have worked systematically to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
We have set science-based near-term climate targets and prepared a climate transition plan to achieve them. In line with the transition plan, we aim to reduce emissions consistently both in our own operations and throughout our value chain in cooperation with our supplier partners.

Biodiversity and nature impacts
The loss of biodiversity also affects the cultivation and production of the raw materials used by Marimekko. In turn, the manufacturing of our products has impacts on nature through, for example, climate emissions and land and water use, and we want to reduce these impacts. We are identifying impacts and opportunities related to these and other themes by creating a nature roadmap and by further reducing, for example, water use.

Resource efficiency
By using materials efficiently, we aim to reduce harmful environmental impacts without compromising the quality and longevity of our products. We reduce material waste, optimize energy and water use, and ensure that waste from our own production is recycled or recovered. In addition, promoting circular-economy-based operating models together with our partners supports resource efficiency.
