Diversity, equity and inclusion

Marimekko’s culture and work environment are built on equality, valuing diversity and inclusion. At Marimekko, diversity, equity and inclusion are an essential part of our company culture and the way we operate. We want to provide a safe, caring and respectful environment where everyone can be encountered as their authentic self – both at Marimekko and more broadly in our value chain.

DEI as part of Marimekko’s culture

Equality and authenticity have been important values to Marimekko from the very beginning. Our culture is based on equity, valuing diversity and inclusion, and these principles guide everyday decision-making, leadership and collaboration.

Any form of discrimination is prohibited at Marimekko. We want to ensure that our working environment is safe and respectful for everyone.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are advanced at Marimekko through clear principles and processes. These include, among other things:

  • an equality plan
  • clear operating models for inappropriate behaviour
  • training and support for managers
  • continuous development of people processes

Any cases related to inappropriate conduct are handled in accordance with predefined processes and taken seriously.

DEI in everyday work and leadership

Perspectives related to diversity, equity and inclusion have been integrated into Marimekko’s people processes and managerial work. We monitor progress, for example through employee surveys, and use the results to develop our ways of working.

We believe that an inclusive and equitable work community supports wellbeing, creativity and long-term success.

At Marimekko, diversity and inclusion are also reflected in communications and marketing. We support diverse representation through image choices and storytelling, collaboration with a wide range of models, influencers and creative content producers, and long-term partnerships such as our collaboration with Helsinki Pride.

Our aim is to promote diversity, for example across age groups, sizes, genders and ethnic backgrounds – consistently and over the long term.

DEI as part of broader sustainability work

Diversity, equity and inclusion are not limited to Marimekko’s own work community. These perspectives are also linked more broadly to responsible business, human rights and fair practices in the value chain. We continuously develop our DEI work and recognize that it is a long journey that requires learning, openness and collaboration.

DEI work is never finished. It requires continuous evaluation, listening and a willingness to improve. We monitor changes in the operating environment and develop our principles and practices to meet the expectations of employees, customers and society. Our aim is to further strengthen an inclusive culture in which different perspectives and experiences are seen as a strength.
