Marimekko was awarded for its timeless design in the Design Challenge competition at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit dedicated to sustainable fashion on Thursday 12 May 2016. This year the competition had three winners instead of one, as Marimekko, the Swedish fashion brand Filippa K and Danish Mads Nørgaard shared first place. Other brands that participated in the competition included, for example, Samuji, By Malene Birger and House of Dagmar. Design Challenge promotes sustainable wardrobes, and this year the jury focused especially on longevity in terms of design and quality.
“We are very pleased and honoured to receive this recognition as longevity and timelessness have always been at the core of Marimekko’s design philosophy. Marimekko is all about bringing joy to everyday moments through timeless and functional design,” says Marimekko’s Creative Director Anna Teurnell.
Marimekko participated in the competition with items from its summer 2016 collection. The competition collection consisted of the Effi trousers, the Cicil shirt, the Kariana kaftan, the Soile, Valma and Marit bags as well as the Rio sandals.
The Copenhagen Fashion Summit is one of the world’s leading events on sustainable fashion. Annually, the event gathers together hundreds of fashion influencers from around the globe.
