Marimekko to auction three unique artworks for International Women’s Week

In celebration of International Women’s Week 2022, Marimekko has collaborated with three prominent visual artists from around the globe: Cassi Namoda, Camilla Engström and Yoyo Nasty.

For this special collaboration, Marimekko commissioned each artist to create a unique art piece to be auctioned by leading Nordic auction house Bukowskis during International Women’s Week in March 2022.

Each sold artwork will be sewn into a custom-made archetype Marimekko A-line dress according to the buyer’s measurements, making the items true forms of wearable art.

Profits from the auction will be donated to Gurls Talk – a community-led non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the mental health and wellbeing of adolescent girls and young women.

For this special project, the artists were invited to create their artworks in Marimekko’s Helsinki textile printing factory, which is a bustling, free-spirited playground of creativity and joy. Marimekko’s history revolves around the art of printmaking, and each year, around one million meters of fabric continues to be printed in the facility. To date, the brands’ ambitious, ever-growing print collection contains over 3,500 designs.
